  1. As near as I can understand it, intertextuality seems to be the referencing of one text in another text, like when a book mentions another book in it. This can also apply to references to other forms of media, like songs or movies. So I guess within the context of composition this would be things like inclusion of quotes by other scholars and references to others' writings and theories. By its nature it results in the comparison of the two texts.

    Dialectic vs. Rhetoric:

    Dialectic: discourse between two or more people holding different points of view on a topic. Truth is established through reasoned argument/discussion.

    Rhetoric: method of discourse used to persuade, inform, or motivate an audience. Logos, pathos, and egos are used here.
